Period Poverty: The Public Health Crisis No One Talks About!

Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, waste management, and education. Unfortunately, discussions surrounding periods have been labeled as taboo for far too long, hindering progress towards a resolution. This stigma breeds insecurity, loneliness, depression, fear, and anxiety, preventing young girls and women from reaching their full potential.

One of the major challenges we face in tackling period poverty is the lack of data and research on this issue. We urgently need more research and engagement to shed light on the extent of the problem. Similar to other forms of poverty, the lack of access to menstrual products and hygiene facilities can have profound emotional, physical, and mental health effects on individuals. This crisis not only affects women, but it ultimately impacts the entire nation.

In the United States alone, approximately 500 million people lack access to menstrual products and hygiene facilities. Shockingly, 16.9 million menstruating individuals in the US are living in poverty, with two-thirds unable to afford menstrual products in the past year. Alarmingly, half of these individuals have had to choose between buying menstrual products and food.

These statistics are utterly unacceptable.

Moreover, given the global plastic crisis, it is crucial to explore more environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional menstrual products. This calls for innovation and collaboration across sectors to ensure accessible and sustainable solutions. "Reign," our Premium Sanitary Napkins, is leading the way in bridging this gap. Our sanitary napkins not only prioritize women's health but also contribute to a safer environment. Our marketing and distribution approach is rooted in educating women about overall menstrual health. We are determined to raise awareness and provide all women, regardless of their financial status, with a well-deserved, luxury line of products.

At We Care Period Foundation, we believe it is time to break the silence and tackle period poverty head-on. Join us in our mission to eradicate this public health crisis and empower women to thrive without the burden of inadequate menstrual care. Together, we can make a difference.
